Baby Yoga

Baby Yoga is adapted from classic yoga poses to give you and your baby the opportunity to stretch, move and relax together. Baby Yoga practice is individual to each baby and involves watching your baby and helping them to do things which will aid their own development, allowing them to stretch and move in ways that they can't always manage alone and which they love. It isn't about getting babies to hold poses or get into unnatural positions!

The benefits for babies include strengthening, improved digestion, stimulation of the senses, development of the brain and nervous system, greater settling and improved sleep patterns. Baby Yoga can also help with common baby problems such as sleeplessness, colic and digestive problems.

One baby yoga session can give your baby as much stimulation as a whole day of being carried and handled. Classes also include post-natal yoga, which can help you to start exercising after the birth of your baby, to close your body after birth, tone your muscles, relieve stiffness, bond with your baby and relax.

Classes involve lots of singing and dancing, a relaxation with your baby and the chance to have a drink and a chat at the end of each class.

You may find that your baby is sleeping when you arrive in class or needs a feed some time during the class. Don't worry - every class will have plenty for you to do, ideas to take home and try out with your baby and you will be able to join in the relaxation and refreshments!

According to demand, classes may be divided into different developmental stages:

Newborn to sitting (approximately 0 to 6 months)
Sitting to crawling (approximately 6 to 12 months)
Crawling to walking (from 9 to 12 months upwards)

If you find that you can only make a class at a particular time, you are welcome to keep attending even once your baby is at a different developmental stage. Classes for older babies and toddlers will also soon be available.

Classes are currently running in Cottenham and Ely.
